Work Caddy. 2L 16V

As I don’t want to show specific pictures of customers engines I thought I’ll show an inside look of my VW “touring” engine.

VW 16V short block with works ABF head and works slide throttles.

I rebuild this head to make it more “streetable”. The stainless steel valves and seats was back cut and angled to my specification. Up rated valve springs was fitted which meant adjustment of retainer heights and location. A spring tester is used to test all springs and get adjusted and shimmed accordingly.

As many people just think building a race head is taking a die grinder and smoothing out the ports there is much more to it than that.

Specific detail are given to the seat area and combustion chamber and valve shape. As a 16V head is known for having a bad exhaust port I had to work around this problem. By changing port shape completely as well as major changes on the head itself. Made up the solid lifters and adjust clearances.

Note all engine head work and machining are done in-house.

With the engine fitted I decided to pick up a set of work wheels. Should round off the whole work caddy theme.

And this is suppose to be my tow vehicle for my race car.

Hopefully will update on startup and my main project. My Berg Cup MK1 2 door Golf with VW 2L 20 Valve “works” engine.
